3 Owlets

Three owlets are currently in the nestbox.
The parent owls continue to bring plenty of food in the evenings.
As the owlets get bigger, the parents spend less and less time in the nestbox.

Only 4?

It appears that not all five owlets survived :( .
They are just now getting big enough to count their heads, and I'm only counting 4. You may have noticed that they have looked like one big pile of fuzz until now.
I'm not sure what happened to the fifth owlet, but suspect that there wasn't enogh food to go around. There were a few rainy nights when it seemed the hunting was not so good.
Hopefully the remaining 4 will be ok.

New site is live!

Yikes! The new site is live and I see a bunch of little things that need to be tweeked a bit. This Blog in particular is a little wacky.
I'll probably be up all night fixing things...
Frida is currently sitting on 3 owlets and 2 eggs. Diego is bringing a steady supply of food.

Egg #2

We have an egg!

On February 16th, around 3:00pm PST, Frida laid her first egg of the season!
In previous years, 6 more followed. (About one every other day.)
The first egg will hatch in about 30 days.

If this is your first season watching the owls, many of your questions can be answered by reading through TheOwlList archive.

The new website design has proven to be a lot more work than I anticipated but it's very close. I will need to make the current changes live before I can complete the project, so please bear with me if things are a little funky for a day or two after I make the switch.
I can tell you already, some older browsers are not going to display the new site properly. A modern version of Internet Explorer, Firefox(Mozilla), Opera, or Safari will get the best results.

As I am writing this, I can't help but notice that THERE IS A SECOND EGG! I better go find the first picture of it!

OwlCam Milestone!

Well, it finally happened, TheOwlCam.com had its One Millionth visitor!
I couldn't quite coordinate having the "new site" ready with the actual moment the counter rolled over a million.
But soon!
When the new site does go live, there will undoubtedly be a few bugs to work out. Please give me a couple of days before emailing me about specific problems you may encounter.
Many of the pages will be in new locations, so if you have bookmarks other than the home page, those links may break. To avoid such a situation, simply bookmark the home page ( http://www.theowlcam.com ).

I better get back to it! Stay tuned for more.

Learning to blog...

If I understand correctly, I should be posting more frequently to the blog. It's tough when there is not much to report, or when there is too much, which is the excuse I am going to use this time.
Usually when the hit counter at the bottom of the page is going up, I love to see it climb. Lately, the feeling has been different. The big, "Millionth Visitor" is right around the corner! And of course, I just HAVE to celebrate by giving the website an overhaul. It's coming along nicely, and I think you will like the new look, but the millionth visitor is closing in fast! I hope I can get it finished in time.

All those votes helped! Keep 'em coming! TheOwlCam.com is currently at #12!

The map is filling in nicely too, currently with 56 entries.

Frida and Diego continue to mate and preen. Eggs coming soon.
